Cranview Gelbvieh started in 1992 with eight registered Gelbvieh cows. Today we maintain two hundred head of registered females consisting of Gelbvieh, Balancers, and Angus. These females are used to produce Purebred and Balancer genetics.
The Cranview name exists because our parents (Louis & Helen) started a dairy herd on our farm in 1961 which bordered Cranberry Lake and they called it “Cranveiw Dairy”. The dairy herd existed until 1977, which was the time when all of us (kids) were beginning to leave for college. It was not until 1988 when Robert, Bill & Louis purchased some ½ blood Gelbvieh cows that there was a renewed interest in cattle on the farm.
We originally chose Gelbvieh because of their proven performance and calm dispositions. Once we started breeding Balancers (Gelbvieh x Angus) in the late 1990’s, we slowly started adding Angus cows to our herd. Economic traits are the driving force behind our breeding decisions, but eye appeal and structure are especially important attributes that we do not overlook.
Our search for superior genetics is an endless journey, and we strive to breed cattle that will be industry relevant for years to come. Our Gelbvieh genetics originated from breeders across the US to include Leachman Cattle Company of Billings MT, TJB Genetics, J-Bob Farms (now owned by C-Cross Cattle Company), Eagle Pass Ranch, and Beastrom’s in Pierre SD. We have used Embryo transplant extensively to propagate these genetics over the years. Our Angus herd started with a partnership cow, BSF Princess W2, owned with Becker Stock Farms. We eventually added several Supermama females from Troy & Lorna Marshalls dispersion; and then purchased a daughter of the Isabel Y69 cow from Baldridge’s to build a base of cows. Today most of our replacements originate from our own AI & ET program.
Our breeding program revolves around Maternal Excellence and industry Relevance, with a keen focus on performance. We pride ourselves in customer satisfaction…we all need each other to be successful in this business.
Cranview Farms is owned and operated by the families of Rob & Holly and Bill & Tina. Bill’s son Noah has a personal stake in many cows as well.
